Description: Today its just the dock wall but once upon a time the King's Arms stood here - a tavern (then addressed 81 New Gravel Lane).
On 19th December 1811, the 56-year-old publican, who had run the tavern for fifteen years was called John Williamson and his wife was Elizabeth and their servant, Bridget Anna Harrington were all murdered here. A lodger witness discovered the crime and disturbed the perpetrator and escaped by tying sheets together and climbing down the front to the gathering crowd outside. They opened the closed tavern to find the bodies.
The event happened just 12 days after the Marr family were murdered just half a mile away. The main suspect, John Williams, committed suicide before he could be put on trial.
