Truefitt and Hill
Barbers shop to the royal family and celebrities.
Location: 71 St. James's Street, Mayfair
Description: Francis Truefitt opened his first salon in London on the 21st of October 1805, on the same day as Vice Admiral Horatio Lord Nelson defeated the combined fleets of the French and Spanish at the Battle of Trafalgar. Brave Nelson was sadly killed in the battle but Truefitts store is still going strong.
In 1911, Edwin Hill set up a barber shop on Old Bond Street, and in 1935 H.P. Truefitt (William's nephew) moved here to create Truefitt & Hill.
The shop is also proudly certified as the oldest barbershop in the world by the Guinness Book of World Records (April 2000).
The shop received its first royal warrant under George III and has also trimmed the barnets of Winston Churchill, Charles Dickens, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Oscar Wilde and Frank Sinatra.
