Welcome to the Manor
Tradition says the Gunpowder Plot was first contrived here
Location: Eastbury Square, Barking, IG11 9SN
Description: In 1918, 'Eastbury Manor House' was purchased by the National Trust, who arranged for this Grade I listed building to be maintained in good order.
Thus ensuring the property survives in good condition for the enjoyment of future generations.
And what a place this Elizabethan merchant house and gardens is... Indeed tradition says the Gunpowder Plot was first contrived here; there are notable 17th-century wall paintings on the first floor and a permanent exhibition explaining Eastbury's story on show.
The property is managed by the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the house is open on the first and second Saturday of every month.
