Description: Jerome Hlapka Jerome, better known as Jerome K Jerome, was born on May 2nd 1859 at Caldmore, in Walsall - there's now a museum there in his honour.
Early years were spent in London's East End where he attended the Philological School in North West London, later known as the Marylebone Grammar School.
The London and North Western Railway was one of his first jobs as well journalism roles and at a school teaching before he secured writing success with 'The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Fellow' (1886) and 'Three Men in a Boat',(1889).
Indeed, 'Three Men in a Boat' was penned on this very spot - whilst living here at Flat 104, Chelsea Gardens, Chelsea Bridge Road.
He died on June 14th 1927 and was cremated at Golders Green cemetery.
