The Coach and Horses

Famous for the very angry landlord, Norman Balon

Location: 29 Greek Street, London, W1V 5LL

Description: Norman Balon - the celebrated landlord. As well as the drinking place of the late Jeffrey Barnard and the meeting place of Private Eye (satirical magazine) and the Oldie.

Norman's unique selling points and his intolerance for customers who fell short of his exact standard was legendary...they would be ejected from the pub without warning.

These mood swings however could not be based on the booze...he was a teetotaller! He proclaimed himself the Rudest Landlord in London.

The interior of the pub was recreated on stage for the biographical play about Bernard's life Jeffrey Bernard is Unwell.

Norman Balon's last day at the Coach and Horses was on Monday 22 May 2006 when he officially handed over to the new owner.
