Nature's Throne

Nature's Throne

London's very own Stone Henge in an East End riverside walk.

Location: Off Lea Valley Road, Clapton

Description: 'Nature's Throne' is a circle of huge granite blocks reminiscent of Stone Henge. They were retrieved from the foundations of the old Victoria Engine House near the Middlesex Filter Beds.

It's the work of local artist and sculpture Paula Haughney and dates from 1990. She formed a gigantic seat, carved with waves, fishes and local flora and fauna. Surrounding the seat is a giant circle using other foundation stones from the site.

It sits in a wetland surrounded by industry and the changing fortunes of the East End making a lovely place for contemplation in a busy city.
