D'Oyly Carte lived here

Victorian theatre and Savoy impresario lived here.
Location: 2 Dartmouth Park Road, Kentish Town
Description: Richard D'Oyly Carte was the Simon Cowell of his time, masterminding Gilbert and Sullivan's rise to stardom. His house here was awarded an English Heritage blue plaque in December 2010. D'Oyly Carte's Comedy Opera Company performed the first productions of many of Gilbert and Sullivan's most famous works, including The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado.
In some ways an early Andrew Lloyd Webber, he exerted his control over Gilbert and Sullivan productions worldwide and drove the standards ever higher.
He was also responsible for creating the first luxury hotel in London in 1889 - The Savoy on the Strand. He claimed it was the first public building in the world to be powered entirely by electricity.
In 1891, D'Oyly Carte founded the Royal English Opera House, now the Palace Theatre on Cambridge Circus, staging 155 performances of Sullivan's only grand opera, Ivanhoe. The theatre was sold just a year later, after D'Oyly Carte failed to find new operas.
