The J60 Music Bar
This is the shop where Steve Marriott met Ronnie Lane.
Location: 445 High Street, Manor Park
Description: While out shopping for a Harmony bass guitar Ronnie Lane visited here in Spring 1965 - what was then the J60 Music Bar (now long gone). He met here a young man who was working on Saturdays called Steve Marriott. On looking at a Harmony, Good bass that mate replied Steve hopefully and the pair hit it off straightaway.
The shop was well known across London for it's knowledgeable musician-only staff.
Lane bought his bass and went to Marriott's house after work where Marriott introduced him to his Motown and Stax collection.
Lane and Marriott set out to form a band, recruiting friends Kenney Jones and Jimmy Winston, who switched from guitar to organ. Marriott was chosen to be the frontman and singer of The Small Faces.
