Highgate Cemetery
The most famous cemetery in London.
Location: Highgate
Description: Highgate Cemetery is a Grade I listed North London Cemetery housing more than 170,000 permanent residents. Dating from 1839, it's divided into two parts, East and West. It was one of the Magnificent Seven London cemeteries opened as London's population outgrew it's inner graveyards.
Highgate Cemetery is notable both for some of the people buried there as well as for its obvious status as a nature reserve.
The most famous burial in the East cemetery is probably Karl Marx.
It's also where painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti did a bit of grave digging.
